Ian Smith and Sir Richard Hadlee claimed their last wicket as a pair in June 1990 when Smith caught England’s Alec Stewart at Nottingham. The wicket was the 43rd time that the duo had combined to remove an opposition batsman.

That mark held off all challengers until January 2017, when Bangladesh’s Mominul Haque became Tim Southee and BJ Watling’s 44th victim. In November 2018, in a dramatic victory against Pakistan, BJ Watling put his name in the top two spots when his combination with Trent Boult went past the Smith/Hadlee number.
