In 2016-17, the Otago Sparks broke their duck, winning the NZ Women’s T20 competition for the first time since it began in 2007-08.

They have some way to go to match the achievements of the Canterbury and Wellington sides who are the most successful in the game’s shortest format.

The Magicians have won the title four times and finished runner-up just as many, meaning there have been just two seasons where they haven’t featured at the pointy end.

Wellington are the most successful side, by percentages, in finals, winning three and losing just once.

At the other end, the Northern Spirit are still searching for their first appearance at the big dance.
