John Sparling played more than 120 First-Class games across a career that spanned some 15 seasons. Along the way, he appeared in 11 Tests and featured in the historic side that drew a series in South Africa in 1961-62.
Described by ESPN Cricinfo as a “solid right-hand batsman, capable offspinner and good fielder”, Sparling’s Test stats are modest but he does have a unique place in history having bowled an over of 11 legitimate deliveries.
In this Last Over interview, John addresses that over and talks about his domestic cricket ‘bunny’, Bert Sutcliffe.
